Their Story

A Wedding with Room to Settle In.

When Tiri and Edward first told me about their wedding, they talked about giving people time. Time to arrive in Wales, settle in and get to know each other. Time for a drink and a conversation. Time to enjoy the celebration they had travelled to be part of.

They married at Tall John's House in Brecon on 13 June 2026, close to where Tiri grew up. Their plans stretched beyond the wedding itself, with a gathering the evening before so guests arriving from further afield would have somewhere to eat, catch up and feel welcome.

That thoughtfulness ran through our conversations. They cared about how the wedding would feel for everyone sharing it with them.

Something That Felt Like Them

"Rustic elegance" was how they described their vision.

They loved the country setting and the character of the house and barn. They wanted a sense of occasion, with enough ease for everyone to feel comfortable.

There was a lovely personal connection to the venue, too. When arranging their visit, Tiri recognised the owners' name through people she had known growing up. Involving familiar faces mattered to them, and it was part of why they asked me to photograph the wedding. We already knew each other, so our conversations began with a level of trust.

They could tell me what they liked, what felt awkward and which photographs they were excited about. My job was to listen closely and help those ideas take shape.

Time Together, Time with Everyone

Having been guests at plenty of weddings, Tiri and Edward knew how they wanted to spend their own.

The important family photographs mattered. So did getting everyone back to enjoying themselves. We planned a short group list, with someone who knew the guests helping gather people, to keep that part of the day straightforward.

For their portraits, they wanted a little time alone together and a few photographs with personality. Something they would be excited to put on their walls. Tiri had a particular idea for a photograph looking through her veil, and they were both open to suggestions about light, locations and how to make their ideas work.

That balance guided my approach: offer direction when it helped, then give them room to be themselves.

Afterwards, they wrote that I had "considered our ideas and added and improved them when necessary". It was lovely to hear that they had felt both listened to and looked after.

The People Between the Big Moments

Some of the most revealing parts of our consultation were about the smaller photographs they hoped for.

Guests chatting. Little conversations with their parents before the ceremony. The expressions and interactions that happen while everyone is simply enjoying being together.

They wanted to recognise their people in the photographs, including those who might ordinarily feel uncomfortable in front of a camera.

Their review described me as "relaxed" and said I "blended into the background well to get those all important candid shots". That was exactly the feeling I had hoped to give them: the freedom to carry on with their day, knowing I was paying attention.

How It Felt to Be There

When Tiri and Edward looked back at their photographs, they wrote:

"Perfectly captured the mood and atmosphere of the day."

For me, that is the line that brings their story back to our first conversation. All that care over the setting, the time together and making people feel welcome had a purpose.

They wanted a wedding they could enjoy fully, with the people who mattered to them. Their photographs would be how they returned to it.
