Can you keep your wedding photos off social media?
Short answer: yes. Plenty of couples keep their wedding photos private, and it is easy to arrange if you say so early. Tell your photographer before you book, and ask for your preferences to be written into the agreement so everyone is working from the same page.
What "off social media" can mean
It helps to decide what you actually want, because couples mean different things. Some want nothing posted anywhere. Others are happy with a few detail shots, such as flowers or the venue, as long as faces are never shown. Some only want a delay, so nothing appears until they have shared their own favourites with family first.
Agree it with your photographer
Ask three plain questions. Will any of your photos be shared online or in a portfolio? If so, which ones, and only with your say-so? How will you receive your gallery, and who else can see it? A good photographer will answer without fuss. Studio Williams galleries are delivered through a private online gallery, and if you want a wedding kept off social media, tell me when you enquire and ask for it to be put in writing. Our guide to whether you need a wedding photography contract covers what to look for in the agreement.
Do not forget the other suppliers
Your photographer is only one person with a camera. Your planner, venue, florist and videographer may all want to share their work, so check each of them. A short message to your planner usually covers it, and they can pass your wishes on to the rest of the team.
Talk to your guests
Phones are the biggest risk. Guests often post before the ceremony has finished. If privacy matters to you, ask for an unplugged ceremony and mention it on your invitations or order of service. Our piece on unplugged wedding ceremonies explains how that works in practice.
After the wedding
You decide what gets shared once you have your gallery. You can post a handful of favourites when you are ready, or keep everything for family and prints. If you plan to print, read who owns your wedding photos and whether you can print them.
Full-day collections from Studio Williams start at £3,500 and include two photographers as standard. If privacy matters for your day, you can get in touch here, tell me what you would like, and we can talk it through before you book.
