Is a wedding album worth it?
Short answer: for most couples, yes, if you want your photos to be something you actually look at. A digital gallery is easy to share, but it tends to live in a folder. An album gives the day a permanent place in your home and lets the story be seen in order, from start to finish.
What does a wedding album give you that a gallery does not?
A gallery is the full set, and it is easy to send to family. An album is an edit of that set: a smaller selection, in sequence, designed page by page. Looking through it feels different to scrolling a phone, and it is the thing that tends to get picked up on a Sunday afternoon years later. If you are wondering how many images the gallery itself will hold, our guide on how many photos you get from a wedding photographer covers it.
When should you order it?
Usually after the wedding, once you have seen the full gallery. That way you choose with the whole day in front of you, instead of guessing in advance. Delivery of the gallery comes first, so it helps to know how long it takes to get wedding photos back.
What should you look for in a wedding album?
Lay-flat pages. They let a photograph run across a spread without losing the middle to the binding.
Archival printing. Ask what the prints are rated to last.
Materials. Leather, linen and suede covers each age and feel differently, so ask to see samples.
Who makes it. A single maker, or a lab, changes how much care goes into the binding.
What do albums cost?
It varies a lot by size, pages and materials, so compare like for like. At Studio Williams, albums begin at £500 and are handcrafted in the UK by a single bookbinder using archival printing and lay-flat pages. They are separate from the photography price, which is worth knowing when you read our UK wedding photography cost guide.
Do you own the images for the album?
Check your contract for print and usage rights before you order anywhere. We cover this in who owns your wedding photos and whether you can print them.
