Do Wedding Photographers Charge Travel Fees?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. There is no industry standard, which is exactly why it catches couples out. Some photographers include travel within a set radius and charge for anything beyond it. Others build travel into their collections from the start. What matters is knowing which one you are booking before you sign anything.

At Studio Williams, travel throughout mainland UK is included in every collection, so whether your wedding is in Cheshire, Cornwall or anywhere between, the collection price is the price you pay.

How travel fees usually work

The most common model is a home radius, often 50 to 100 miles, with a per-mile charge beyond it. Some photographers also charge for their time on long journeys. Others quote travel individually for each wedding. None of these is wrong. The problems start when the policy is vague and the first number you hear arrives after you have booked.

When extra travel costs are fair

Sometimes an extra charge is completely reasonable. An overnight stay before a long-distance wedding, so your photographer arrives fresh rather than leaving home at 4am. Flights or ferries for a destination wedding. A multi-day celebration far from home. These are real costs, and a good photographer will tell you exactly what they are before you commit, not after.

What to ask before you book

Three questions cover almost everything. Is travel included in your price, and if so, how far does that stretch? If it is not included, how is it calculated? And are there any circumstances, like an overnight stay, that would add to the quote? Get the answers in writing, ideally inside your contract, so there are no surprises on either side.

How I handle travel

Every Studio Williams collection includes travel throughout mainland UK. Full day coverage starts from £3,500, and everything included is set out on my investment page. For destination weddings in Italy and beyond, any overnight stays, flights or extra travel arrangements are clearly included within your proposal, so you see the full picture before you book.

Wherever you are getting married, the answer on travel should never be a surprise invoice after the wedding.

If you are planning a wedding anywhere in the UK or further afield and want a straight answer on costs, get in touch and I will tell you exactly what your day would cost.
