How Do You Find a Wedding Photographer in the North West?
Short answer: look past the highlight reels. Shortlist photographers who show full wedding galleries, who photograph weddings across the region regularly, and who you would genuinely enjoy spending the whole day with. The North West has plenty of talented photographers, so the trick is knowing what actually matters when you compare them. I photograph weddings across Manchester, Cheshire, Liverpool and the wider region, so here is the honest advice I would give a friend starting their search.
Start with the work, not the price list
A photographer’s Instagram grid shows you their best thirty photos of the year. A full gallery shows you how they handle a whole day, the dark ceremony room, the drizzle at the drinks reception, the chaos of the dancefloor. Before you book anyone, ask to see a full wedding gallery and look for consistency from morning to night. If the quality holds up across hundreds of photos, not just the ten they post, you are onto something.
Choose someone who knows the North West
The region is wonderfully varied for weddings. Manchester gives you city townhouses, warehouses and rooftop terraces. Cheshire is full of country estates, sandstone castles and converted barns around places like Knutsford, Alderley Edge and Peckforton. Liverpool mixes grand city churches with waterfront venues. Each asks something slightly different of a photographer, and someone who already works here will know the venues, the light and how the timings usually run.
I am based in Manchester and photograph weddings right across the North West. Recent work includes Lucy and Mick’s summer wedding at St John the Baptist in Liverpool and Mollie and John’s autumn day at Grange Barn near Marbury in Cheshire. You can see how I cover different parts of the region on my Manchester, Cheshire and Liverpool pages.
Questions worth asking before you book
A short list that will tell you most of what you need to know. How do you approach the day, and will you direct us? Can we see a full gallery? How many photos will we receive, and when? What happens if you are ill on the day? The answers should be calm, specific and confident. Vague answers at this stage tend to become problems later.
What does it cost?
Prices across the North West vary enormously, from a few hundred pounds to several thousand, and you generally get what you pay for. Full day coverage with me starts from £3,500, which includes a second photographer as standard and a private online gallery of at least 400 fully edited photographs. You can see exactly what is included on my investment page.
If you are planning a wedding anywhere in the North West and this sounds like your kind of photography, get in touch and tell me about your plans. I would love to hear about them.
